Northshore Utility District is seeking a Civil Engineering professional who is ready to apply their engineering knowledge and principles to the solution of technical problems.  Your responsibilities will include preparation of water and wastewater capital improvement project plans and specifications, including design, drafting, field review, quantity take-offs and cost estimating.  Other duties will include review of wastewater collection and water projects proposed for developer extensions.  In addition, you will participate in studies, comprehensive plan updates, project status updates, and engineering department policy decisions, as well as providing technical support to other departments and local agencies within our District.

Northshore Utility District is a special purpose water and sewer utility located at the northeast end of Lake Washington in King County. The District encompasses more than 11,000 acres in parts of Kenmore, Bothell, Lake Forest Park and Kirkland and serves more than 87,500 people. 

The District serves approximately 21,952 water customers and 21,608 sewer customers.  We currently maintain 252 miles of sewer collection pipe with 10 lift stations and 282 miles of water main with three water pump stations.  We have eight water storage facilities with a combined capacity of 29 million gallons. 

Depending upon your education, experience, skills and abilities, you’ll qualify for one of two classifications:  Engineer or Engineer-Senior (CIP)

ENGINEER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of the basic principles and practices of civil engineering including the methods, materials, equipment and modern techniques in civil engineering design, construction and inspection. 
  • Working knowledge of civil engineering, surveying, drafting, mapping, computations and interpretation of legal descriptions. 
  • Basic knowledge of utility construction and contract management. 
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3-D.
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Proficient oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.  Incumbent must be able to interact tactfully, courteously, and effectively with a variety of people in person, on the phone, and via e-mail.
  • Excellent organizational skills. 
  • Flexibility in accepting assignments.

Experience / Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of two years of employment experience in a civil-engineering related position (preferred); will consider engineering internship experience.

Licensing Requirements:

  • Engineer-in-Training certification
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License

Other Requirements:

  • Reliable and regular attendance, the ability to work harmoniously with other employees, and a non-smoker.

Schedule:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 40 hours per week, non-exempt position. 

Monthly salary range:  $6,236 to $8,359. 

ENGINEER-SENIOR (CIP) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Full understanding of the District’s operations as a water and sewer utility.
  • Highly proficient in civil engineering aspects of design, operation, construction and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. 
  • Highly proficient in the preparation, reading and interpretation of engineering drawings, specifications and estimates. 
  • Proficient in all phases of project management. 
  • Proficient in the development and interpretation of legal descriptions and in obtaining and utilizing field survey information. 
  • Ability to deal tactfully with contractors, consultants, permitting agencies and the public.
  • Possess well-developed organizational skills.
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Full understanding of District policies and procedures.
  • Meet all qualifications for the position of Engineer.
  • Proficient oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.  Incumbent must be able to interact tactfully, courteously, and effectively with a variety of people in person, on the phone, and via e-mail.
  • Flexibility in accepting assignment. 

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • A minimum of ten years of employment experience in the civil engineering field with a minimum of five years direct experience in the wastewater collection and/or potable water supply industries.

Licensing Requirements:

  • Current Washington State Professional Civil Engineering Registration.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License.

Other Requirements:

  • Reliable and regular attendance, the ability to work harmoniously with other employees, and a non-smoker.

Schedule:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 40 hours per week, non-exempt position. 

Monthly salary range:  $7,142 to $9,572.
