On Monday, July 23, 2018, attorney and Inglewood resident Tom Mortimer was sworn into office as a newly-appointed Northshore Utility District (NUD) commissioner. Mortimer replaces long-time Commissioner Robert Peterson, who recently retired from his seat after a planned move to Bainbridge Island. Commissioner Mortimer will fill the remainder of Mr. Peterson’s term through December 2019, after which time he will stand for election.

Commissioner Mortimer brings to NUD a wide breadth of knowledge and experience. A highly-respected attorney based in Seattle, Mortimer has 29 years’ history working for public utilities and private sector entities. He brings specific expertise in state water law, water quality regulation, clean energy resource management, and environmental protection.

Prior to Mr. Mortimer’s swearing-in ceremony, District Board Secretary Don Ellis honored former Commissioner Peterson for his distinguished career of public service. In addition to nearly 10 years representing NUD, Peterson had also served as fire chief for Northshore Fire Department, with a 34-year career in the fire service. Outlining his many accomplishments achieved over a lifetime of service, District General Manager Al Nelson cited Peterson’s “diligence, sense of fairness, and commitment to service [that] enriched those who knew and worked with him.”

Said Nelson, “As we recognize the value of Robert Peterson’s investment in the Northshore community, the District is pleased to welcome another like-minded public servant in Tom Mortimer. His skills and experience will help NUD continue our mission of providing outstanding service while protecting our community’s financial and environmental interests.”

Tom looks forward to meeting and working for the people of Northshore Utility District.  He can be reached by email at comm3@nud.net.
